If you haven't already read Gregg Drinnan's excellent piece on the WHL's "Power Players", you should definitely rush over to his blog and read it now. Gregg talked to folks around the league and came up with a list of the WHL's 25 most influential people. At the top? No surprise, it's Kootenay Ice owner/governor/president Ed Chynoweth. Big Ed was the WHL commissioner for 25 years prior to his job with the Ice, and apparently his considerable power as commissioner hasn't waned at all.
One surprise (to me, anyway) name missing from the list? Portland's Ken Hodge. Another guy who has been around the league since day one, it must be a sign of how far he has fallen within the Portland organization under their new ownership that he isn't even one of the 25 most influential people in the league anymore. He and Brian Shaw used to almost rule the league.
One other article I want to link to is this one. It has been out for a few days and has been posted in a few other places already, and so many of you have probably already seen it. I haven't gotten around to posting it here until now....if reading that doesn't increase the amount of respect you have for what some players in the league are going through behind the scenes, then I don't know what will.
