2011 NHL draft - WHLers update

The deadline for NHL teams to sign their 2011 entry draft picks from major junior hockey is nearing - June 1, as I recall. Players drafted out of major junior hockey who are not signed by that date are re-entered into the 2013 draft pool .

With that in mind, here is the NHL contract status of every player from the 2011 NHL draft who has played in the WHL since the draft:

(as always, corrections are welcome - if I missed a signing somewhere, please let me know so I can update this list!)

First round:
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Red Deer Rebels (Edmonton, 1st overall) - Signed (Played pro in 2012-13)

Seventh round:
Brody Sutter, Lethbridge Hurricanes (Carolina, 193rd overall) - Signed (Played pro in 2012-13)

Overall, a pretty good showing from the WHL draftees as 30 of the 35 names above have signed NHL contracts. Only Colin Jacobs, Zach Yuen, Brenden Kichton, Shane McColgan, and Jordan Fransoo have not, as far as I can tell.

If they do not sign, Jacobs, Yuen, Kichton, McColgan, and Fransoo will go back into the 2013 draft.

Jacobs signed an ATO with Rochester, Buffalo's AHL affiliate. Would that extend the timer at all or does that have no bearing on him re-entering the draft?

No bearing on his deadline to sign an NHL contract, as far as I know.

The ATO is a tryout contract and just allows him to play some games for the AHL club. Of course, how he performs in those games might have a bearing on how interested Buffalo gets in signing him to an actual NHL deal.
