The effects of tonight's games on the playoff races....
- Regina's win over Moose Jaw clinches a playoff spot for the Pats
- Saskatoon's win over Brandon clinches a playoff spot for the Blades
- Edmonton's win over Red Deer, combined with that loss by the Warriors, means the Oil Kings have locked up first place overall in the Eastern Conference.
- Red Deer's loss means the best they can do now is tie Brandon for the last playoff spot and thus play a one-game tiebreaker. I'm still pretty sure that tiebreaker won't be necessary and Red Deer will be mathematically eliminated by the end of the weekend.
- Tri-City, Kamloops, and Portland all win, so nothing changes in the big race atop the Western standings except that everyone now has one fewer game to play.
- Victoria won while Everett lost, so the Royals slip back ahead of the Silvertips for 7th in the West.

Question for you. During Everett v Portland Mac Carrath from behind his net knock the net off its post with silvertips Cody Fowlie just about to fire a shot from 5 feet from goal line. Easy Goal, would have tied the game with 4.7 seconds left.
Everett was awarded a penalty shot but I believe they should have been awarded the goal. Why is it that everett had to try to score against Carrath in the net when before he cheated Fowlie had a give me goal? Why wouldn't all goalies when in this situation do what Carrath did if only a penalty shot is going to be awarded? Chances of making a penalty shot 30-40% compared to goalie behind net skater 5 feet out and open net100% chances of scoring. Just doesn't seem right.

I agree with you, but that's the rule. The only time a goal can be awarded by the referee is if the shooter is fouled while facing an empty net with the goaltender having been pulled.
The last seven words there are the key - Carruth was still on the ice and so the best the ref can do is award a penalty shot.
