Sweep! Sweep! Sweep!

The first round of the WHL playoffs kind of resembled a curling rink, didn't they.....cries of "sweep! sweep! sweep!" everywhere.

This was surely one of the least-interesting first rounds in recent memory in the WHL, with five series ending in 4-0 sweeps and one other series ending in five games. That's 38% of the playoff teams who saw their playoffs last less than a week.

(This phenomenon wasn't limited to the WHL either - in the QMJHL, seven of eight first round series were sweeps!)

So only two series remain - Vancouver/Spokane, which is tied 2-2, and Moose Jaw/Regina, which sees the Warriors with a 3-1 lead, so that series could also end in five games if the Warriors win game five at home tonight.

The 2nd round of the playoffs is also becoming more clear in both the East and West. One matchup is already set, in the West where #2 seed Portland will host #3 seed Kamloops.

The other West matchup is also mostly determined; we know Tri-City will host the Vancouver/Spokane series winner.

Nothing is determined in the East yet. Edmonton will host the lowest-ranked team to survive the first round. That will be Regina if they come back to beat the Warriors, or it will be Brandon if the Warriors eliminate the Pats.

Medicine Hat will visit the Warriors if Moose Jaw wins, or they'll host the Wheat Kings if the Pats come back in that series.
