The Raiders used a high pick on a goalie in 2012 (Nick McBride) as well. Guess they are setting up for McBride's successor here.

I don't have much stat-wise on him but he and Scott were considered by far the best two goalies in the draft. Goalies traditionally don't get picked in the first round of the WHL draft, it's not very common. Now we have two of them in the first 13 picks this year. Does that say something about the abilities of these two kids?

Spokane picks Calgary centerman Jaret Anderson-Dolan at #14:

Those are big points and PIM totals for 28 games. Good sized kid too.

With #17, Medicine Hat picks a small forward. Who saw that coming????

At #20, Edmonton picks forward Kobe Mohr:

Lloydminster Rage (AMMHL minor midget AAA) 4 3 0 3 6

At #21, Portland's pick is forfeited.

I know technically the next pick is still #21, but I will call it #22 to stay consistent with the WHL site.

At #22, Kelowna finishes the first round by picking another OHA defenceman, Jonathan Smart:

Jonathan Smart - D, 5'11", 170 lb GP G A Pts PIM
Okanagan Hockey Academy (bantam AAA) 48 10 32 42 39
Okanagan Hockey Academy (St. Albert AAA bantam trnmt) 6 3 7 10 0
Kings (B.C. U16 Cup) 4 0 0 0 8
That's three OHA defencemen picked in the first round and five OHA players altogether.
