Simon suspension

I see the NHL has handed down its' judgement on the Islanders' Chris Simon for stepping on/kicking Jarkko Ruutu last weekend. He has been given 30 games, and with that, Simon has broken his own record for longest on-ice suspension in NHL history.

Is this the end for Chris Simon's NHL career? He has been suspended eight times now and by the time this suspension is over in February, he'll have spent basically 10 months of the preceding 12 months under suspension. He's also 35 years old (36 in January) and is likely to face ever-increasing suspensions each time he steps out of line after this. Given the style he plays, the likelihood of yet another suspension (should he return to play) is not a small one. I think this is the end.....as it probably should be.

The best thing for Simon to do would be to just ride off into the sunset here. If he does return, the negative stigma surrounding him will be a huge distraction, both to him and the Islanders. He's had a solid career, he's earned an NHL pension. Time to start the next chapter in his life.
