Overage moves

First move is made: Brandon trades defenceman Mark Louis to Red Deer for a 2009 3rd round pick. Great move for the Rebels, I think. Louis is a steady veteran defenceman which the Rebels can really use, and he is from Ponoka which is only 30 minutes or so from Red Deer so he gets the added bonus of playing at home.

UPDATE: Have I mentioned lately how useless the WHL is at getting info out? If not, let me do that now. They put out this release detailing the results of the overage dispersal draft, which nicely informs us that Vancouver filled their open spot by adding Ken Petkau (maybe he decided to un-retire, that is going to piss off the rival Bruins), and that Lethbridge added Mike Wuchterl and released Yashar Farmanara (guess the Canes really needed to use two overage spots on limited-talent tough guys).

But, not a word on what happened in Kelowna or Saskatoon, where the Rockets had to release one of Brady Leavold, James McEwan, Lyon Messier, and Kris Westblom, and the Blades had to release two of Chris Durand, John Flatters, Ondrej Fiala, Michael Kaye, and Curtis Patterson.

Those players must have been released by now, but neither the league (in their supposed wrap-up press release) nor the team websites (as of 4:15pm MDT) have seen fit to tell anyone who they are. They even say at the bottom, "All other 20-year-olds who were available but not selected in the cut-down draft now become free agents". Well, why the f*#@ don't you tell us who they are? Your fingers were tired from typing the first three paragraphs? What a little-league operation.

Great post Allen. You would think that
the WHL would be a little more on the the ball on a day like this in the league. This was certainly a year there was a higher number of 20 year olds than normal.
