Kamloops and Prince Albert have swung a swap of overage defencemen. The Raiders ship Mike Gauthier to the Blazers for Ryan White and a 2008 5th round bantam pick.
Wonder if this has anything to do with Gauthier losing his letter the other day? (See next post down for the details on that move). One thing is for sure though, the Raiders under Bruno Campese are making a 180 degree turn away from the style of hockey preferred by former coach Peter Anholt. Gone from last season's roster are the likes of Gauthier, Cody Vann, Justin Palazzo, John Flatters, and Josh Elder. What did all those players have in common? Yep, their main skill was their fists. The Raiders were in 78 fights last year (3rd most in the league) and those guys were in 53 of them.
Which is probably just as well for Raiders fans since the other thing you can say about Anholt's style is that he doesn't win. He has a career .491 record in the WHL, and .444 - and without a single winning season - since he left Seattle after the 91-92 season.
