Hump day notes

News and notes from around the league this morning...

A name that is sure to cause some confusion amongst fans around the league is in contention for a goalie spot on the Warriors. Deven Dubyk, not to be confused with former Kamloops star goalie Devan Dubnyk, is hoping the Warriors have a spot for him after he was dropped by Brandon last winter.

The Tigers, including returnee Bretton Cameron, are raring to get going with their camp. Also a few notes on some of the top prospects for the Tigers.

17 year old Kyle Golz has high hopes for making the Raiders.

In Kelowna, Torrie Jung knows the #1 goaltender's job is his to win after two years of backing up Kris Westblom for the Rockets.

Still with goaltenders, one of the most competitive goalie situations in the league is in Regina where there are probably four WHL-calibre goaltenders competing for two jobs. Veterans Linden Rowat and Jeff Bosch are being pushed by rookie hopefuls Damien Ketlo and Derek Tendler. Tendler is profiled in today's Leader-Post.

The Hitmen open their camp today with a whole bunch of holes to fill. Herald beat writer John Down runs down the roster.

I found this article in the Edmonton Journal....it's not a WHL story but it's a nice read about WHL alumni Ross Lupaschuk, who is taking one last shot at the NHL after several years in Europe. For the Journal's Oil King coverage today, it's a story on veteran power forward Brett Breitkreuz.

Meanwhile, the Edmonton Sun looks at prospect Rhett Rachinski and the Oil Kings' overage log-jam. Five OAs are competing for just three spots.

Overage spots are at a premium in Vancouver too, where there's four guys and three jobs.
