Very bad news for the Everett Silvertips, as apparently both of their European players have decided to stay at home and play in their own countries this season instead of returning to Everett as 19 year olds.
Nick Patterson has the story....basically this screws the 'Tips over since they did not make an import pick this past June as they were expecting Karamnov and Vartovnik to return and be leaders offensively - the duo would have been the #3 and #4 returning scorers from last year. With all the big offensive losses the 'Tips were already taking this season (Bauer, Crowley, Gendur, Hamill, Harty) plus breaking in a new goalie, this is news they just did not need. They can now either trade for imports from teams who may have too many (don't think there are any teams with three imports in camp though?), or they can go without.
After today's cuts, and excluding 15 year olds who can't make the team anyway, the Blades are down to 3 goalies and 9 defencemen in camp already. Maybe only one more cut to be made at each of those positions to be ready for the season. I'm sure there are other teams who have cut down to similar numbers already but since nobody but the Blades has bothered to put anything on their website, how would we the fans know about it....
