Ivan Hlinka update

Quick note about the Ivan Hlinka memorial U-18 tournament going on over in the Czech Republic: for the 2nd year in a row, Canada and Russia have won their pools in the round-robin and so they will meet for the gold medal tomorrow for the 2nd year in a row.

Canada has seven WHLers: Brett Connolly (Prince George), Quinton Howdon (Moose Jaw), Alex Petrovic (Red Deer), Calvin Pickard (Seattle), Mark Pysyk (Edmonton), Brad Ross (Portland), and Jordan Weal (Regina).

Stats for the Canadian WHLers:

Connolly: 0g, 0a, 0pts, 0pim
Howdon: 0g, 0a, 0pts, 2pim
Petrovic: 0g, 0a, 0pts, 2pim
Pickard: 2-0, 2.50 GAA, .906 GAA
Pysyk: 0g, 2a, 2pts, 2pim
Ross: 0g, 1a, 1pt, 0pim
Weal: 1g, 2a, 3pts, 0pim

Connolly has not played since the first game of the round-robin after suffering an apparent hip flexor injury in that game. But, not a very strong showing on the offensive side of things for the WHL boys. Only one goal off the stick of a WHLer despite Canada having scored 18 goals. But, who knows how they're being used by the coaching staff....

With the politics that take place at these events you can be sure that with an OHL coach the ohl players are being catered to. Happens every year.
