2013 NHL draft picks

The June 1 deadline is approaching for NHL teams to sign their 2013 draft picks from the CHL or else lose them back into the 2015 draft, or to unrestricted free agency. I have here a list of all the 2013 NHL draft picks who played in the WHL in 2014-15, and their current NHL contract status, as far as I could determine it.

Not all these players were in the WHL at the time of their drafting. Vannelli, Tambellini, Heinrich, Cederholm, and Quenneville were drafted from other leagues and the 2-year signing rule does not apply to all of them. I'm not going to worry about Vannelli, Tambellini, or Cederholm since they have already signed anyway. For the others:

 - Quenneville's rights are owned by Columbus until June 1, 2017. This is as per section 8.6(c)(ii) of the NHL CBA. Since Quenneville is playing out his final season of eligibility in the WHL right now, I would think Columbus would want to sign him sometime this summer, but they're not going to lose his rights if they do it after June 1. The same rule would have applied to Vannelli and Tambellini had they not signed already,

 - Heinrich was drafted from the USHL but never started college so as far as I can tell from reading the CBA, the 2-year rule applies to him. Washington must sign him by June 1 or lose his rights.



The following players were also drafted from WHL teams in the 2013 NHL draft but did not play in the WHL in 2014-15, in all cases because they have already moved on to pro hockey:
