A team with veteran defencemen aplenty shipped one of them to a team with a veteran defencemen shortage today. Kamloops sends 19 year old d-man Brandon Underwood to the Regina Pats for a 2012 4th round bantam pick.
The Blazers had seven defencemen returning from last year (besides Underwood, there was Josh Caron, Brady Gaudet, Tyler Hansen, Marek Hrbas, Austin Madaisky, and Bronson Maschmeyer) and need to make some room for younger players. Meanwhile, the Pats had only Art Bidlevskii, Richard Blidstrand, and Tyler Borstmayer as returning defencemen, given the uncertainly about the 2011-12 status of Myles Bell. And Tyler Pavkovich played part of the season last year but not the whole season. So the Pats can use all the veteran defencemen they can get right now, since the option is to play 2 or 3 inexperienced guys every night.
