The WHL saw the first of what will probably be many more overagers on the move today, leading up to the October overage deadline.
Today's deal has Victoria trading 19 year old forward Dylan McKinlay to Kootenay for overage defenceman Hayden Rintoul and "future considerations". I would imagine the futures are a bantam draft pick which the Royals will get if McKinlay plays in the WHL as an overager in 2012-13.
The move effectively gets both teams to four overagers for next year. For Kootenay, they still have as likely candidates goaltender Nathan Lieuwen, defenceman James Martin, and forwards Joe Antilla and Jesse Ismond.
For Victoria, in addition to Rintoul they have goaltender Braden Gamble and forwards Curt Gogol and Robin Soudek. Since they previously traded for 19 year old Keith Hamilton to be their #1 goalie next year, today's trade makes things look even grimmer for Gamble.
