Has anyone else heard about this? It's news to me and the season is almost here:
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20070824_NHL_verdict_goes_against_goal_judges.html
The NHL is doing away with goal judges behind the nets. Most of the story is about the Flyers' addition of luxury seats to the area where the goal judges once sat, but just the fact that the goal judges are being moved to the press box in the first place is news to me.
Which immediately brings up the question for me about how this affects the Hitmen and Oil Kings, who are the only WHL teams playing out of NHL buildings. Will they have to put the goal judge boxes back behind the nets for WHL games, or can the goal judges work from the press box for WHL games in those two rinks too? Putting the boxes back might be difficult if the Flames and/or Oilers put in seats into those locations like it seems many NHL clubs are.
I guess we'll have to see....
