Chilliwack note

The BCHL rights of Chilliwack Bruins forward Evan Pighin were acquired by the Victoria Grizzlies in a trade last weekend. Reading the press release on Victoria's website, it sounds like Pighin has agreed to join the Grizzlies next season for his overage year rather than play in the WHL for Chilliwack.

If this is true, it's a blow to the Bruins, who would have been counting on Pighin for some offence next season, especially if they lose leading scorer Mark Santorelli to his NHL contract. Pighin had 48 points in 52 games for Chilliwack last season. In fact, if Santorelli does not return and neither does Pighin, Chilliwack's only 08-09 overage candidate is tough guy Partik Bhungal and whether they're even interested in having him use up one of their three overage spots could be debatable.

Bruins fans need to hope really, really hard that Oscar Moller doesn't crack the lineup of the rebuilding Los Angeles Kings, because losing all three of Santorelli, Pighin, and Moller would decimate their front end, leaving them with Jadon Potter as their top returning scorer.

As a Bruins fan, I think Bhungal is a big part of our team. He is an good two-way forward, an excellent penalty killer and has become a fan favourite from his fights with Garet Hunt. I'd be disappointed if the Bruins cut him.
