There were also several WHL-region prospects picked from the Jr A, NCAA, and high school ranks. I'm not going to list all of those, but you might want to check your favourite teams' prospect list against the NHL draft list because you never know, sometimes being drafted can change a player's mind about where he wants to play.

24 of the 30 NHL teams picked at least one player from the WHL. Only New Jersey, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Jose, Vancouver, and Washington did not. I'm sure there is a good reason why four of those six teams have never won a Stanley Cup.

Kidding.

18 of the 22 WHL teams had players picked as well. Only Lethbridge, Prince Albert, Spokane, and Swift Current did not. The breakdown by WHL team:

Portland: 8 (!!!!!!!!!!)
Saskatoon: 4
Chilliwack: 3
Everett: 3
Kootenay: 3
Moose Jaw: 3
Brandon: 2
Calgary: 2
Kamloops: 2
Medicine Hat: 2
Regina: 2
Tri-City: 2
Vancouver: 2
Edmonton: 1
Kelowna: 1
Prince George: 1
Red Deer: 1
Seattle: 1

Next up on the hockey schedule: the CHL Import draft. That goes tomorrow, starting at 9am Eastern time. I know, that's 6am on the west coast....god forbid that we start it at a more reasonable hour for the WHL G.M.s who have to get up with the sun in order to call in and follow the draft.

The WHL has the first pick this year, which will belong to Prince George. If you are interested, you can follow the draft live at the CHL's handy Import draft page.

I'll try and post some stats on the WHL-picked players as the draft progresses, but I don't have a lot of data on the European players so don't expect anything too much there.
