One trade over the weekend, with the Rebels shipping out yet another one of their rebuilding blocks. This time it's 17 year old defenceman Zak Stebner - their 2nd round pick in 2005 - off to Prince Albert for the rights to goalie David Aime. Aime, you'll recall, was the Raiders backup last year but lost his spot on the team to newcomer Steven Stanford this year. Since the Rebels still have two very capable goalies on their roster - James Reimer and Morgan Clark - we have to assume that acquiring Aime is just insurance in case one of them goes down, or perhaps in case they decide to deal Reimer to a contender at the trade deadline. Otherwise, why is a rebuilding team dealing former 2nd round picks away for so-so goalies who will likely never play for them?
Wondering how former WHL star - and brief NHLer - Dan Blackburn is doing these days since injuries forced him out of hockey? Wonder no more.
Raiders import Max Brandl is feeling a little more comfortable these days, now that his father has arrived in Prince Albert for a visit. So comfortable, he scored his first home goal of the season in the first game his dad watched.
Speaking of dads visiting - heck, of the whole family visiting - the Kraus clan gathered in the Tri-Cities over the weekend for the one and only meeting of the season (barring a trade) between older brother Tim (Pats) and younger brother Kevin (Americans). And with Tim being an overager this year, this was the last time the two will face each other in a high-level game like this, unless they end up playing professionally against each other of course.
Article on new Oil King, Jeff Lee, who left the NCAA to join the WHL earlier this year.
