Avery claims another victim

By now most of you have probably already heard that Joe Nieuwendyk is the new G.M. of the Dallas Stars, which means Brett Hull has been fired - or in his case, punted upstairs to the empty job title of Executive Vice President and Alternate Governor. (Executive V.P. of what, exactly?)

I think Hull's fate was sealed the moment the Sean Avery situation blew up in Dallas. Hull was the driving force behind the Stars signing Avery last summer in the first place, and his initial reluctance to condemn Avery's moronic behaviour probably didn't help him either. I mean, when the owner (that would be your boss) issues a strongly-worded statement condemning Avery, and everyone else in the dressing room is voicing how much they despise the guy as a teammate, your quote to the press probably shouldn't be "we should do everything to make sure that I don't have to stand here and talk about stupid things like this anymore".

Maybe Hull is now the Executive V.P. of Talking About Stupid Things.
