The NHL rules say anyone who instigates a fight in the final 5 minutes of a game gets an automatic suspension (although apparently the rule does state that the league can/will review each incident on its own merits) but the league says Malkin doesn' t meet the suspension standard because there was no intent on his part to "send a message". Considering he skated all the way around the net to jump on the much smaller Zetterberg, I call B.S. on that. Methinks he really escaped suspension because he NHL is embarrassed that he fights like a little girl. (Do they really want to issue this press release: "The NHL has suspended Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin for one game for instigating a slap-fight"?)
I'm not a fan of either one of these teams but man do the Penguins make it hard to like them. With all the talent on that team they should be an easy team to like to watch but their stars all behave like a kindergarten at recess. When your stars, the guys who should be your leaders, are losing their cool like that so early in a series.....they haven't got a hope of winning.

Also hard to like the Pens when they have Matt (The Rat) Cooke the worst backstabber in the NHL. His helmet is welded on and his gloves glued on so he doesn't have to answer the bell. I am not a fan of the Swedish Wings but I despise the Pens more.
It is clear the NHL is trying its best to save itself from an embarrassing four game sweep in the finals. Ok the Wings can play without three regulars including Datzyuk, but the Pens would be done without Crosby or Malkin.
Allen, Allen, Allen. That tap on the skate on a scale of to ten about a .000025. That was no big deal--my little graddaughter would have not even noticed it.
That would be on a scale of 1 to 10. Sorry
Dan - yes, but if the roles were reversed and Maltby was doing that to Crosby, Crosby would be in tears on the ice holding his leg and Maltby would be suspended.
So why is it OK for Crosby to do it? Why is it OK for Malkin to do what he did? The game needs ONE set of rules for everyone.
