Wednesday notes

Couple things this morning....

First, Vancouver has lost 16 year old defenceman Zach Hodder for the rest of the season. Hodder requires surgery on an injured shoulder and the recovery time from the surgery is said to be six months. So he should be ready for next season, but 09-10 is over for him.

The loss of Hodder leaves the Giants with only six defencemen on the roster. I guess for the rest of the season if any of the remaining six get dinged, they'll either have to lean on affiliate players to fill the holes or they'll have to convert some forwards to defencemen.

Second note today is that the Ice and Oil Kings are playing a game this morning in Edmonton. It's an 11:30 start, which is an extreme rarity in this league - a midweek non-holiday game with a morning start time. In fact, it has never happened before. The Oil Kings are calling it "hockey hooky" and busloads of local schoolkids are coming to watch the game instead of going to school.

How come we never got "field trips" like this when I was in school....

That wasn't a field trip, that was punishment. You seen the Oil Kings lately?
