B-pools over

The two B-pool World Junior tournaments wrapped up on the weekend. Biggest news from the WHL point of view is that Spokane's Stefan Ulmer lead his Austrian team to an 8-3 thumping of Denmark in the deciding game of the B group tournament, which means Austria has earned promotion to the A-pool with Canada, USA, Sweden, Russia, etc, for next year. Ulmer is only 18 so he'll still be eligible to take part next year with Austria. He lead the Austrians in scoring with 11 points and a +12 in five games.....next highest scorer on the team had nine points.

In the A group, Igor Revenko of the Raiders and his Belarussian teammates lost a heartbreaker, 2-1 to Switzerland in the deciding game of that group. So Belarus stays in the B-pool for next year while Switzerland will move up and rejoin the A-pool along with Austria. Revenko tied for the scoring lead on Belarus with 11 points (5g-6a) in five games.

Calgary's Bostjan Golicic and his teammates from Slovenia finished 4th in that group, so they also stay in the B-pool for next year. Golicic had four points (all assists) in five games.

Hungary and Estonia were the two teams relegated to the C-pool for next year, where they will face hockey powerhouses like Romania, Serbia, Korea, Spain, and Mexico.
