More WHL accolades from the Canadian World Junior camp - Seattle's Thomas Hickey was named the captain of the team. Zach Boychuk is one of the alternate captains.
And the reason for taking 8 d-men and no extra forwards may be known; according to TSN's Bob MacKenzie, defenceman Ryan Ellis is a disaster in his own zone and is on the team for his exceptional powerplay QB abilities only. So they took 7 other, defensively competent, defencemen so they'd have a full complement of blueliners without having to put Ellis out on defence.
In my mind, this is complete BS that with the number of talented kids that got sent home, that Canada would keep a one-trick pony who's only going to play 6-8 minutes a game on the powerplay. They sent home some good well-rounded defencemen and extremely talented forwards so that they could keep Ellis; he better make the Canadian PP the best in the tournament and score a bushelful of points to justify this selection.

I agree, I find this pretty stupid if you ask me. Some of the selections are a bit funny. Evander Kane should`ve been on the team and I think Schenn as well.
Aulie making it is a joke lol.
hey lets not forget John Negrin, not even an invite! and they keep a pp QB for 6 minutes a game? what bs. Negrin or a handfull of any talented d-men could be there and do the same exact thing for the team plus contribute more minutes and actually have point in being there.
