Just three weeks after the ECHL's August Lynx ceased operations in midseason, the league has lost another team. The Fresno Falcons shut things down yesterday, throwing another 20-some players out of work three days before Christmas.
Only two ex-WHLers affected, according to the team roster at ECHL.com. Both are former Spokane Chiefs: Judd Blackwater and Adam Hobson. Also of note on the roster is former #2 overall bantam pick Dan Bertram, who spurned the Giants and the WHL for the NCAA.
Really makes you wonder how many other ECHL teams are teetering on the precipice of bankruptcy as well, when two have already failed in midseason. A lot of that league's teams are not located in strong hockey markets and fan support cannot be counted on even in good times in some of those places.
