The WHL is on its Christmas break starting today....games resume on the 27th. A roster freeze also goes into effect tomorrow and remains in place until Boxing Day, so there will be no trades or other player movement until after Christmas at least. Which means WHL news is going to pretty much stop for the next ten days.
For players attending the World Juniors, the trade freeze will be extended to the conclusion of the World Juniors on January 5, preventing them from having to deal with the distraction of being traded in the WHL while trying to win a medal for their country. Great move if you ask me. Remember last year when the London Knights stupidly traded Canadian goalie Steve Mason in the middle of the tournament....why is it necessary to trade these kids while they're still at the WJCs, they can't play for their new CHL teams until they finish at the WJCs anyway.
And the CHL Top Prospects game rosters will be released sometime this morning. This year's game goes January 14 in Oshawa, Ontario.
