Final cuts made

The final cuts have been made for the Canadian World Junior team, and they are forwards Scott Glennie, Cody Eakin, Louis Leblance, and Philippe Cornet; defencemen Tyler Cuma, Shawn Lalonde, and Dylan Olsen; and goaltenders Olivier Roy and Matt Hackett.

So, two WHLers cut (Glennie and Eakin) which means that 8 WHLers have made the team:

Martin Jones, G, Calgary Hitmen
Jared Cowen, D, Spokane Chiefs
Travis Hamonic, D, Moose Jaw Warriors
Colten Teubert, D, Regina Pats
Jordan Eberle, F, Regina Pats
Brandon Kozun, F, Calgary Hitmen
Brandon McMillan, F, Kelowna Rockets
Brayden Schenn, F, Brandon Wheat Kings

So the Hitmen and Pats will each be missing two key players until the second week of January.

Also, this marks seven straight years that the Hitmen have put at least one player on Team Canada:

2009-10: Martin Jones and Brandon Kozun
2008-09: Brett Sonne
2007-08: Karl Alzner
2006-07: Karl Alzner
2005-06: Justin Pogge
2004-05: Ryan Getzlaf and Andrew Ladd
2003-04: Ryan Getzlaf

Near as I can tell, this ties the Spokane Chiefs for longest streak of consecutive years with a player on the team. The Chiefs did it seven straight years from 1994 through 2000.

Canada starts the hunt for their 6th straight WJC gold medal on Boxing Day against Latvia.
