Well, that was one-sided.....this was undoubtedly Kelowna's worst effort of the series and it showed as they were beaten in every area of the game tonight. Final score 6-1 for Calgary, final shots on goal 50-19 for Calgary, powerplays were 2/9 for Calgary and 0/4 for Kelowna....there are no positives for the Rockets in this one.
The amazing team defensive effort we saw from the Rockets in the first three games of the series was nowhere to be found for the 2nd straight game, and Calgary's offence had their way with the puck in the Rockets zone all night. Mark Guggenberger actually played a pretty good game, he really couldn't be faulted on any of the goals as almost every single one of them came off the stick of a Hitmen player camped out around the crease area. Calgary now has 12 goals in the last two games after mustering only three total goals in the first three games.
The Rockets scored the nicest goal of the night by far, maybe the nicest of the series as Cody Almond was found all alone in the slot and went top shelf backhand on Martin Jones, but that was the only thing Jones gave the Rockets all night. They didn't have a lot of chances but Jones shut the door on everything else with some nice saves.
So the Hitmen have cut the Rockets' seemingly invincible 3-0 series lead to 3-2. It's obviously still an uphill climb for the Hitmen, especially with game six in Kelowna, but momentum is definitely on Calgary's side now and some big, huge cracks are showing in Kelowna's armour.
Kelowna looked like a tired team tonight. Are they now feeling the effects of playing two tough series with Tri-City and Vancouver before this one, whereas the Hitmen had three very easy series?
I think game six is going to decide this series....if the Rockets win, obviously it's over. If Calgary wins though and forces a game seven, I just can't see Kelowna coming back to Calgary and winning a game seven when Calgary will have all the momentum and emotion going their way.
