Calgary needed a win tonight in game three to avoid the dreaded 3-0 'deficit of death', and instead for the first 40 minutes put forth their worst effort of the playoffs. 3 shots in the first period of a game they should have come out firing in....that's embarrassing. Compare the Hitmen's third period effort - which saw them control the play and get several chances around the Rocket net - with what they put out in the first 40 minutes....not good enough.
Kelowna played picture-perfect defence for the full 60 minutes tonight and are full value for the win, they gave Calgary next to nothing all night and as a result the Rockets are going to be the 2008-09 WHL champions. It's only a matter of when, not if....I predict they'll finish the job in game four. I doubt the Hitmen have any fight left in them after these three losses.
Calgary had a great year and have a great collection of players but Kelowna is the far, far superior TEAM. Who can argue with that after watching these three games? As a Calgary fan it really, really stings to be so good all season, and then get this close and lose, but it's not like they're being beat by a bunch of chumps....Kelowna is just better and they are peaking at exactly the right time. I can deal with that.....
Honestly, look at the collection of firepower the Hitmen have and they can only get three goals in three games so far. I don't care who Windsor or Brampton or Drummondville or Shawinigan or Rimouski have for snipers....can anyone really see the Rockets getting beat in the Memorial Cup if they keep playing like this? The only thing that could beat them in my view might be the typically questionable officiating you see in that tournament sometimes.
