Hockey Canada released the roster of players this morning who have been invited to try out for the Canadian entry at this year's World Junior Championships, which start Boxing Day in Edmonton and Calgary this year.

Red Deer's Dumba is the only 17 year old invited this year. As this is usually an 18/19 year old tournament, Dumba is probably facing an uphill battle to make the team....but you never know.

Maxwell traded
The Everett Silvertips have found a new home for disgruntled overage forward Tyler Maxwell, trading him this morning to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a 2012 3rd round bantam pick and the rights to '95 defenceman prospect Griffin Foulk.
The trade gives the Oil Kings four overagers, so they will have to ASAP trade or release one of their existing three - forwards Jordan Peddle, Rhett Rachinski, and Josh Lazowski.

World U-17 Challenge Rosters
The four WHL-region provincial hockey associations released the rosters today for the two teams, Team Pacific (British Columbia & Alberta players) and Team Western (Saskatchewan and Manitoba players) who will compete at the World U-17 Challenge after Christmas in Windsor, Ontario.
As always, the two rosters are a collection of top WHL 16 year olds and top WHL prospects. The rosters, with current club and/or WHL affiliation....

And one other note - every year Team Western seems to have some non-WHL-roster players on their team, while Team Pacific seems to always be 100% WHL roster players. This year is no different. For some fun trivia though, there are 25 WHL rostered 16 year olds who did NOT make the U-17 teams; five of those are American (thus not eligible for Team Pacific or Team Western) and the other 20 are all from B.C. or Alberta.
In other words, Team Western picked every single eligible 16 year old from WHL rosters. They HAD to fill out their roster with players from the midget leagues.
