Ams, Canes trade

Probably the biggest trade of the WHL season so far last night when the Americans and Hurricanes hooked up on a five-player deal. Gone to the Tri-Cities are overage forward Mitch Fadden and two defencemen, 19 year old Cam Stevens and 17 year old Brock Sutherland. Going the other way are overage forward Drew Hoff and 18 year old defenceman Eric Mestery.

On the surface, this looks like a lopsided trade in Tri-City's favour. Fadden, after all, is a potential WHL scoring champion in the right circumstances. But the deal is essentially Fadden for Mestery, and the Canes are going to get at least one more season out of Mestery after this year, whereas this year is the end of the WHL road for Fadden. So one year of a top-line forward for two years of a top-pairing defenceman in a year when good defencemen are in short supply in the WHL? Not that lopsided at all.

The canes traded Colton Yellow Horn a few years ago to TC and got a 1 st draft choice, seems we should have at least got a draft pick as well in this deal.

Some of us are wondering around the bridge if Roy S is building the Canes or the American's (pun intened) another top scorer but not forgotten !

We shall see in March, hope i am eating my words. Go CANES Go
