The Rockets have signed 2008 first-round bantam pick Shane McColgan to a WHL education contract and he will make his WHL debut next month.
This avoids the sticky situation for the Rockets that they find themselves in with 2007 first round pick Luke Moffatt, who appears to have shunned the WHL in favour of the NCAA route.

Nice to see families and players have the integrity to stay true to their word. Will also be nice to see all teams remaining true to theirs. Less players and families kids will have a fear of being swayed in with rhetoric. Great for the league. Peace
Although Moffatt has committed verbally to Michigan, Bruce Hamilton said he remains optimistic (he) will play in Kelowna.
“From everything (Moffatt) has told us, they are going to wait until the end of the year and see where he‘s ranked for (the 2010 NHL draft). And if he‘s ranked highly, then he knows the route that would be the fastest to turn pro would be to come play here.”

McColgan is awesome. He would have made the Rockets this year as a 15-year old if such a thing were permitted. He was easily the fastest guy on the team, and that's with skaters like Tyler Myers and Brandon McMillan. I was hoping to see him play in some preseason games but there was some concerns and he was held out.
