A trio of trades to report in the league this morning...
Yes, Moose Jaw and Regina have made a deal. The Pats have sent 18 year old backup goalie Jeff Bosch to Moose Jaw for 18 year old forward Neal Prokop. In related news, block heaters are on sale in Hell.
In another deal, Prince Albert has dispatched 19 year old forward Andy Smith to Chilliwack for the rights to 19 year old goalie Matt Esposito and a 2010 4th round bantam pick.
The third deal sees the Giants send list player Brett Lyon, a 17 year old forward, to Kamloops for a 6th round pick in the 2010 draft.
Some thoughts.....
The Pats-Warriors deal, apart from being a rarity, seems like a pretty fair deal for both sides IMO. Bosch is not a proven starter but has that potential, and Prokop hasn't quite lived up to the billing as a first round bantam pick but maybe with a new start he might. And both players are likely around for 2.5 years yet so it's fair in that regard also. The question now for the Warriors is which of Todd Mathews or Devan Dubyk is going to get the pink slip now that Bosch is there to assume the #1 goalie duties. Dubyk's numbers are far better than Mathews' and Dubyk is a year younger too so I'd lean towards seeing Mathews sent packing.
The Raiders deal doesn't make a lot of sense to me from the Raiders point of view. Why do they want Esposito when they have two very capable goalies already? If they don't use Esposito this year then he'd be an overage next year and most likely wouldn't make the team as an overage backup to Stanford. So the only way this makes sense is if the Raiders plan to flip Esposito to another WHL team, or if they plan to trade either Stanford (doubtful) or Zemlak (maybe?). A 4th round pick is fine but alone doesn't seem like enough return for a guy like Smith who will probably play in the league again next year as an overage.
The Blazers-Giants deal is the third trade of a non-roster Giants prospect to the Blazers since Craig Bonner took over as Blazers GM. First it was Linden Saip, then Sahir Gill, and now Lyon. Could be Craig Bonner picking up some prospects off the Giants list who he liked when he was with the Giants?

Maybe the Raiders got Esposito because Zemlak is like swiss cheese in net. Lot's of holes to pick from. Stanford hasn't been much to write home about either.
