Third round picks

At #45, Portland picks Saskatchewan winger Brayden Holloway.

I think (THINK!) that Holloway is the younger brother of Seattle's Bud Holloway. They are from the same town in Saskatchewan anyway.

At #46, Vancouver uses Red Deer's pick from the J.D. Watt trade and picks up Luke Fenske, a defenceman from Penticton.

At #50, Vancouver gets the first half of their payoff for Kamloops G.M. Craig Bonner by using Kamloops' pick on Sicamous centerman Cain Franson. I do believe he is the brother of former Giant Cody Franson.

No stats on Franson, but he's 5'7", 125 lb, and played AA bantam in Sicamous.

At #51, Chilliwack takes another B.C. AA bantam player, 6'0", 165 lb right wing Tim Traber. No stats on him either but he played for the Quesnel AA bantams.

#52, Moose Jaw uses Saskatoon's pick (they got it from P.G. in the Wishart deal, while P.G. got it from Saskatoon for Chris Durand) to take Edmonton-area winger Nathan Smith. Not the Nathan Smith who just got arrested for streaking in Scranton....

Nathan Smith

Right Wing - 5'8", 143 lbs GP G A PTS PIM
06-07: Sherwood Park Flyers (AMBHL AAA bantam) 29 8 12 20 77
07-08: Sherwood Park Flyers (AMBHL AAA bantam) 30 14 20 34 100

07-08: Northeast Flyers (Alberta Cup) 5 2 1 3 8

Smith is another member of Sherwood Park's Alberta and Western Canadian bantam champion team.

Small player with huge skill level. Could be the best player in the draft on skill alone but size and commitment to the WHL are major concerns.

the portland website i'm reading says it is Bud's brother. Imagine that confusion in Portland

I left this message in the wrong spot. There are an army of Holloways around Wapella and they all play hockey, even the girls. There are only two sibs in that family, Bud and his sister. The two of them are guaranteed to be cousins though.
