Not one of those nine goals came off the stick of a WHLer, which means that for the entire tournament, Canada scored 27 goals in 4 games and the six WHL skaters on the team contributed 1 goal in total.
Obviously I didn't see any of the games, and coverage of the tournament was pretty sparse so the list of people who know how things went over there is probably limited to a pretty small group that includes the team itself. But I find it difficult to swallow that the West contributed 30% of the skaters on the team and yet managed to score less than 4% of the goals.
It certainly isn't because our kids are any less skilled than the OHL's or QMJHL's - guys like Connolly, Howdon, Pysyk, Ross, and Weal are going to score a ton of points before their junior careers are over and at least a couple of those guys are going to be first round NHL picks next spring.
Politics again (OHL head coach, go figure)? Western kids have a reputation for being more gritty and well-rounded players than the one-way wonders the other two leagues produce, so the WHL kids get slotted into checking roles?

Same thing with the team in 2007 the WHL players were dealt the same way, mmmmmmmmm.
and everyone harped on Kyle Beach when he pointed it out. When is the next time WHL coach will coach?
I believe Jordan Weal was the only WHL-er to score a goal and ended up the the WHL scorer. He didn't win WHL rookie of the year? We have our own politics to deal with!
Beach was right and hockey Canada is nothing more than a BS old boys club where if you pay your dues, they give you some candy. This jerk Boughner will likely be the National Jr's head coach in a year or two, just watch and see!
He basically composed the two top lines of OHL player and left the rest (WHL) to check. The top lines get all the PP time, thus the goal totals get inflated. I can tell you one bloody thing is that if we had a Quebec head coach, the WHL would get a better shake. This happens every friggin time with OHL coaches. I hope Hockey Canada hears the displeasure. At least things changed a bit after Beach opened his mouth.
