Mayorov, dates

Couple more notes this afternoon....

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed prospect Maxim Mayorov to a contract. This has WHL implications because the Brandon Wheat Kings own Mayorov's rights and are waiting to see whether the Jackets send him to the WHL or to the AHL. The Wheaties already got stiffed on their other import pick, Kirill Gotovets; he's coming over to North America but will be a little further south than Brandon, in Faribault, Minnesota at Shattuck-St Mary's. So the Wheaties are looking at having no imports this year if Mayorov isn't sent to Brandon and they don't keep Daniel Bartek as an overager.

And a couple WHL dates to mark your calendars with.....the overage cut-down deadline this year is October 16th. That's about a week later than usual but with the NHL starting up a bit later than usual this year the WHL decided to give teams some extra time to get possible overagers back from the big leagues.

December 19-26 is the Christmas trade freeze this year, as it usually is. And the trade deadline this year is still 3pm Mountain time on January 10, as it has been for several years now. That is a Saturday this year.
