Wednesday news

News and notes around the league on a Wednesday...

Yesterday one Kelowna paper had a piece on their new import Stepan Novotny, and now the other one does. With three years of North American hockey under his belt and fluency in English, Novotny should be able to make the immediate impact the Rockets are clearly expecting from him....

Two bits from the Edmonton Sun today, one on pint-sized Oil Kings prospect Dylan Wruck, who was sent down to midget yesterday but could be an exciting player to watch in the future. The other is on backup goalie hopeful Cam Lanigan.

Speaking of pint-sized prospects, Vancouver has one too.

Hitmen goalie David Aime would like nothing better than to unpack the suitcase he has lived out of for his entire junior career.

The Hitmen beat the Rebels 6-3 in pre-season action last night but the Rebels were mighty happy with the play of Willie Coetzee.

Brandon will unveil a new website on Friday. It would be nice to see a few other teams in the league follow their lead. Some of these sites have not been changed in 3-4 years and some of those weren't very good to begin with. But then, if you're not going to update it anyway, what's the point of a fancy new website. I fear I'm going off on one of my rants about things that bug me about this league again but I can't help myself....the internet is only the greatest, most powerful information distribution medium ever invented and yet some teams in this league have been rather slow to figure out the power of this tool. How many teams out there have not a breath of info on their sites right now about their current camp rosters, for example...maybe they think fans just don't care about that stuff. But they'd be wrong.

And lastly here, a really classy move by the Vancouver Canucks as they will honor defenceman Luc Bourdon - who died earlier this summer in a motorcycle accident - before their home opener. This includes flying his mom in from New Brunswick.
