Myers

WHL announced today there would be no suspension to Tyler Myers.

Just so we're clear on how playoff supplemental discipline works in the WHL world:

 - flip the opposing bench the bird = one game suspension
 - put a vulnerable opponent through the boards from behind = no suspension.

Got it.

Could not agree with you more. Silly suspensions handed out to Niemi of the Blades and Beach of the Hurricanes in the first round, and then Myers recieves nothing for what would have been an automatic suspension during the regular season.

A penalty is a penalty is a penalty...the rule book does not differentiate between a league game and a playoff game. One of the few things we ask for as fans is having the rules consistently applied in all situations. When that is not done (as the Meyers incident shows) then one can justly accuse the league of playing favourites. What a load of hypocrisy! Do they want to end hits from behind or not?

That was a brutally damgerous hit. Can't believe the league did nothing. Was one of the dirtiest and cheap hits I have seen this year.

Bruce Hamilton, the Rockets owner, gm and whl grand pooh bah was on BC's Dan Russel's Sportstalk show last night and even went as far as to say upon reflection he thinks Meyers should have been only assessed a double minor for the hit. That is disgusting and insulting to hockey fans everywhere. Come on, a one game suspension would have satisfied all rational hockey people.

Reg Dunlop here . . . I'm placing a personal bounty on the head of Brett Sonne, the captain and chief punk on that Calgary Hitmen team. 100 bucks of my own money for the first guy on our Kelowna team that really nails that creep. That's 7 o'clock on Monday at War Memorial Prospera Place - the Calgary Hitmen vs. your all new Kelwona Rockets.

Relax everyone ... just joking. Who owns da Chiefs!

Regan (Rockets pbp guy and resident pom pom cheerleader), how many points did Meyers earn from you this time? You did give Meyers extra bonus points for taking McFadden out of the Tri C series with a hit that you also called a marginal infracion. You do seem to have a track record of being an apologist for the Rocket players. Kelowna hockey fans, it's a good idea to get different perspectives and opinions re: our Kel players. For ex. look at Alan Caldwell's take on last night's ot winner and Meyers careless/selfish hit. I must agree with him on both counts. Sure the Rockets were the better team for the bulk of the 6 games versus the Giants but that doesn't mean the Giants don't have some legitimate disputes as well. Hamilton also said last night that the series clinching goal hit Backlund's crest and went in even though Backlund himself was quoted by Doyle Potinteau of the Kel Courier that he got his stick on the puck; therefore it must have been a high stick. Granted the replays were horrible. Makes you think however especially considering the Toigo goals in game 5 was called off. Perhaps Doerksen and the league wanted Kelowna to avoid a 7th game in order to get rested to make the Dub Final more competitive for the lauded Hitmen.

fyi i live and work in Kelowna, played in the whl and am very disappointed by Hamilton's comments, and Reagan's Bartel's acceptance and even provocation and the 1% lunatic fringe Rockets fans on his Regan's Rant blog. Let the games begin! I predict a very entertaining and competitive whl final. Hopefully we can focus on the great plays and 'spirit' of the game.
