NHL Tuesday

No news from the WHL, where we're still waiting to hear whether Tyler Myers will be suspended....

But, how about those two game sevens in the NHL last night? In Washington, the Capitals completed the comeback from a 3-1 series deficit (the 21st team in NHL history to do that) by beating the Rangers 2-1 on a late third period goal from the old geezer, Sergei Fedorov.

Excitement, eh...but that was nothing compared to what happened in New Jersey about a half hour later. The Devils had a 3-2 lead with less than a minute and a half left in the game.....and lost 4-3. In regulation. The Hurricanes tied it up with 80 seconds left, and then got the winner with 32 seconds on the clock. That has to be one of the most dramatic turnarounds in NHL history....from 80 seconds away from advancing in the playoffs, to being eliminated. (Vice-versa, of course, if you're a Hurricanes fan!)

Remember, the Hurricanes also won game 4 of the series on a goal with 0.2 seconds left in regulation. For the Devils to lose two games of a series like that in the final minute....

Still with the Devils, the end of their season means the speculation can begin afresh about the future of coach Brent Sutter. The rumours have been circulating for a while that Sutter does not plan to return to the Devils next season and will instead come back to the WHL and his Rebels. We'll see.

And back to the Capitals-Rangers for a second....why is it that in the NHL, 21 teams have come back from being down 3-1 in a series, but only two have ever come back from 3-0? If you're going to win three in a row to come back from 3-1, is it that incredibly more difficult to win four in a row? Apparently it is.
