Overage defenceman Matt McCue is apparently returning to the Medicine Hat Tigers despite signing an NHL contract with Anaheim last week and being assigned to their AHL affiliate. Turns out the need for him in the AHL is not as great as the Ducks first thought and so they are going to let him finish out the season in the WHL. Good news for the Tigers.
And in the OHL, TSN is reporting that John Tavares has been traded to the London Knights by the Oshawa Generals. Tavares and two other players, including defenceman Michael Del Zotto (a 2008 NHL first rounder) are off to the Knights for three players, FOUR second round OHL draft picks and two third round draft picks.
That's six draft picks in the first three rounds of the draft, plus three 16 & 17 year old prospects, that the Knights are giving up for half a season of Tavares. Granted, they get Del Zotto too and he's not chopped liver, but that's a massive price to pay.
Oh, and the wonderful new WHL site is down again. Good job, WHL! Try having your developers do a little TESTING next time, especially if you're going to make a major change in midseason, right before the freakin trade deadline when every junior hockey fan in western North America will be trying to get onto the site for news and stats. Jeez.
