One other trade note, I guess Mike Alexander declined to play for Lethbridge, even though he did initially report to the Hurricanes. So, he was traded back to the Silvertips today for a 2009 5th round pick. So the final tally on the Beach trade is Beach and a 5th round pick for Iwanski, Theriau, and Lethbridge's 2009 1st rounder. Ummm....doesn't look so good for Lethbridge anymore since one of the things they needed was more veteran presence on defence. I thought they got Alexander to provide that but obviously that's not going to happen.
UPDATE: apparently Hurricanes G.M. Ray Stasiuk has a different version of the events around the Alexander trade. Rather than Everett G.M. Doug Soetart's version which has Alexander not wanting to play in Lethbridge, Stasiuk says Alexander was damaged goods. He is suffering from a concussion which Lethbridge's people think is more serious than the day-to-day status Everett was reporting him with. Two completely different versions of events from the two guys who made the two trades happen.
I suppose it's possible that they're both right - ie, Alexander is hurt AND didn't really want to play in Lethbridge, and so they're both just spinning it in the way which is most positive to their club.
